Terrorists, NOT insurgents

Today the news reports that nearly fifty bodies of innocents were discovered in the Tigris River. What does the news media choose to label the perpetrators of this horrendous act? Insurgents.

A quick google for the term brings up a few definitions, including this one (from Bouvier's Law Dictionary);

INSURGENT. One who is concerned in an insurrection. He differs from a rebel in this, that rebel is always understood in a bad sense, or one who unjustly opposes the constituted authorities; insurgent may be one who justly opposes the tyranny of constituted authorities. The colonists who opposed the tyranny of the English government were insurgents, not rebels.

Terry at Bainbooks has a request for the media...
"Be specific or be quiet."

Steven L. Taylor asks.. "What's an Insurgent? What's a Terrorist?"
He "would like to see terms like "militants," "guerrillas" and "insurgents" taken from the mouths of the press and replaced with the appropriate vocabulary. "

I think it shows a certain amount of laziness on the part of the news media to just slap a label onto the terrorists without accurately defining exactly what the term means or how it applies to these criminals. The continued use of this word to innacurately describe the evil perpertrators of murder and destruction against the citizens of Iraq is shameful.
