Thanks for the link, my far-right wing brother.... I shall continue to pray for your soul while I continue to champion the rights of the oppressed and the gunless of our great nation. All in good fun, friend... all in good fun Just to note, Glenn, the terrible language you cite, regarding what the left has thrown the right, is returned every day. It is a problem of both sides. According to the right, we lefties hate people of faith -- we're attacking Christians (even though many on the left are religious and Christian); we like to kill unborn babies; we sympathize more with Bin Laden, Zarqawi, and Hussein than we do with the good ol' U.S. of A; we like criminals; women who stand up for equality of the sexes are "femi-nazis"; etc... All of this is bogus, as well. So, let's all try to promote civility in our public discussion. Many (most?) lefties are strongly opposed to religious belief, particularly christian religous belief. There are secularists on the right as well, but they seem more predominant on the left. Often in the flame wars everyone gets lumped in together, but I think that's primarily because these generalizations do have a strong basis in fact. It does seem to me, though, that there are some political issues where christians ought to clearly come down on one side of the issue. Abortion is one such issue. I don't see where a christian can logically support the right of a mother to wantonly kill her unborn child. I raised this question before, but never did get a reasonable response. (I did get a fairly unreasonable one!) More civility... Yeah! Liberals, like myself, believe that in a constitutional democracy, where the citizens have different faiths and yet are commonly committed to the ideal of freedom and the principles of the constitution, political and legal decisions cannot be based on the religious beliefs of some (or even most, for that matter) because religious beliefs are based on faith that we do not all have in common. Rather, they should be based on reasons we all share in virtue of being human and in being American. Notice, there's no animosity towards religion itself there -- just animosity to the idea that political and legal decisions should be based on purely religious principles of a particular creed.
